Sustainable Development Plan 2024‑2028
Our sustainability efforts are guided by 10 key themes that reflect our priorities, values and commitment to responsible action on environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues.
The Sustainable Development Plan 2024‑2028 is the cornerstone of our commitment to observing the principles of sustainability [in French only, PDF 212 kB] and meeting our environmental, social and governance responsibilities. Echoing the priorities set out in our Action Plan 2035, it also reflects the Government Sustainable Development Strategy 2023‑2028 and the expectations regarding Hydro‑Québec's contribution to the decarbonization of Québec.
Our 10 sustainable development themes
- Biodiversity: We take concrete action to protect and enhance biodiversity.
- Climate: We are working to accelerate decarbonization of the economy and our operations, and to adapt our infrastructure to climate change.
- Circular economy: We strive to use resources responsibly at all life cycle stages of an asset or service.
- Managing different types of pollution: We take great care in managing the environmental risks inherent in our activities and assets.
- Human resources: We make every effort to be an employer of choice to attract and retain talent. We insist on a safe, diverse and inclusive work environment.
- Sustainable communities: As a responsible partner, we are helping to improve the lives and well-being of all people of Québec.
- Relations with First Nations and Inuit: We are committed to working with First Nations and Inuit in a spirit of reconciliation based on trust, mutual respect and the sharing of wealth.
- Responsible energy use: We are committed to providing our customers with tools to reduce their electricity use and contribute to Québec's energy independence.
- Responsible procurement: We have undertaken to secure our supply chain in a responsible, strategic manner.
- Responsible governance: We follow our codes of ethics and comply with international certifications, and we have implemented rigorous accountability mechanisms.

Specialized Documentation
About 50 years ago, after the Québec government launched the La Grande complex project, Hydro‑Québec created its environment department. Since then, the company has conducted a wealth of environmental studies covering topics such as aquatic environments, wildlife species and the human environment.
