Pilot project – In‑home display

Status: In progress

Objective

The main objective of this pilot project is to see whether making real-time data accessible to everyone in the household can lead to energy savings and lower power demand.

The easy-to-use display is designed to encourage customers to take simple, meaningful actions to reduce their consumption while staying comfortable.

Project description

Installed in the home, the device enables occupants to track their energy use in real time, identify the most energy-intensive appliances and find information on peak demand events (periods when demand is particularly high and Hydro‑Québec asks customers to reduce their electricity use).

The pilot project will run for two years, providing enough time to thoroughly assess the energy impact.

Participants were selected based on three main criteria:

  1. Be signed up for Rate Flex D
  2. Live in a designated geographic area
  3. Be part of the Hydro & Me Panel

Anticipated benefits

  • Increased household awareness of how different loads affect electricity bills
  • Measurable energy savings
  • Reduced power demand during peak demand events
  • Stronger interest in connected devices
  • Increased interest in real-time energy monitoring for customers
