The Alliance de l'énergie de l’Est and Hydro‑Québec have strengthened their partnership by adding the Wetsok Agreement to the wind development opportunities in eastern Québec.
About the partnership
Wetsok means “in the direction of the wind” in the Wolastoquey language. The agreement involves collaborating to explore wind potential in the MRCs of Montmagny, L’Islet, Kamouraska, Rivière‑du‑Loup and Témiscouata.
Up to 1,500 MW could be produced in the targeted areas in the coming years.
Through wind power development, the partnership will generate significant economic benefits for communities in Eastern Québec and the Wolastoqiyik Wahsipekuk First Nation. The agreement represents investments of up to $4.5 billion in the targeted areas.
The signing of this agreement demonstrates a shared commitment to structured, sustainable wind power development that is adapted to the regional realities of eastern Québec, in partnership with local and Indigenous communities.
